Word to the wise re YouTube videos

Hi everyone,

I was recently going through my long Word document that is a list of links to GK videos on YouTube, to make sure all the links were still good.

Though most still were valid links, some of the videos had been taken down. Many of these were just short excerpts from concerts, but those videos were important to me because I was at the concerts.

Some have obviously been taken down for copyright reasons. The biggest tragedy here was a video of the Gipsy Kings singing "Hotel California." The video was a compilation of them singing the song at a concert at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, singing it in rehearsal, and some shots from the early documentary about one of their early concerts (which unfortunately, does not have "Hotel California" on it, probably also for copyright reasons). This was one of my TOP FAVORITE GK VIDEOS ON YOUTUBE.

If you or anyone you know is technically adept and knows some way to download these videos (not just the audio), if you have any top favorite videos, it would be a good thing to download them to preserve them. There are other YouTube videos featuring the GK singing the song, but without this video, as far as I know. One just has a still of the bowling guy from "The Big Lebowski."

Last night I was watching an "American Masters" program about some of the the singer-songwriters of the late 1960s - 1970s. The program mentioned the Eagles, and I yelled at the TV, "IT'S ALL THEIR FAULT!" ;)

If you want not only to download videos, but also to convert the sound to an MP3, try DVDVideoSoft's Free Studio. The download is free; I've used it for years; and I have been able to preserve a lot of my favorite clips this way.

Hi Jusquin,

Many thanks for the tip about Free Studio. I think I'll be getting an MP3 player later this year, so this will come in handy.
