hoping for a new album

I know for some time there has been talk of a new album. (If someone at one of the upcoming concerts should happen to bump in to one of the backstage personnel, they might be able to provide some information.) I keep hoping that someday it will in fact be released, but......until there is an official release date... maybe we can put together a collection of previously unreleased in CD songs. Some have already been published on this site, but are listed again to group them all in one topic. Please add in any which have been missed.
Ones that come to mind....

Hi musicfan,

Thanks for the excellent list of links, especially the one to the Gipsy Kings' official website, the song with Goran Bregovic. I had only heard "Balkaneros" on YouTube.

It's true there has been talk for a long time about a new album. In May 2011, Andre and some of the other GK were on a TV show to promote the U.S. tour. Andre said that that a new album would be released in the summer; then he sang "Caramelo" with Canut:

Your list of previously unreleased (or not released in the U.S.) songs looks complete as far as I know.

Re "La Negra," the link you provided is a video of the whole song, but it switches back and forth between a concert in the '90s and a concert more recently. It's done very well, but here's a link to a video of just the earlier concert, in case you think the recording is better:

There is also a YouTube video of Andre singing "La Negra" at the more recent concert. The sound quality is better than the sound quality of the earlier recording, and Andre's singing style is more developed. Unfortunately, it's not the whole song:

Speaking of Andre, there is a YouTube video called "Como Soy Gitano - Andre Reyes - Gipsy Kings." The video is a composite of different videos of Andre. The videos are of Andre in recent years, but the recording sound like Andre in earlier years. This is the only time I've ever heard this song. I don't think it's a GK song. According to one comment: "ce n'est pas GK c'est andré reyes et mario reyes groupe santa sahra!!!"

In addition to songs unreleased or unreleased in the U.S., I would like to add songs that were released, but only on a "Best of" or similar type of album. For example, "Gitano Soy," a GREAT song, is only on "Cantos de Amor," which many people may not have since the other songs on that album are on other albums. Here's a YouTube video which is a slide show accompanying a recording of "Gitano Soy." This song is so wonderful, I don't know why it hasn't become one of their favorites that they sing often at concerts.

You're right about "Mi Gitana" on Georges Reyes' MySpace page -- the lead singers are Nicolas and Canut.

Also on Georges' website is "La Quiero." The lead singers are Nicolas and Canut. According to the website, this song is on "The Gipsy Kings Greatest Hits," another collection album that many people may not have. They also sang this song at the Moscow concert in 1995 (Georges was there). Here's the same song on YouTube:

Another song not often heard is "Pida me la." It's one of their earlier songs; I don't know what album it's on, since I have all their main U.S. release albums (but not the "Live" or collection albums). They did a music video of this song. Here it is on YouTube:

That's all I can think of right now!

Thanks for the links.

Another place to hear Canut, is on Gitano Family's "Sara Sara". I got the CD used, and it did not have the cover/album information, but I was listening one day, and thought I recognized his voice. After some google searches, he does in fact appear on the album. ( Incidently the CD has some really nice remakes, some of which were done on albums as 'Jose y los Reyes'. Sorry I don't know the song titles..... )

Hi musicfan,

Thanks for the info on the CD "Sara Sara." I think Canut also recorded a solo album some years ago, but I can't remember the name of it.

Thank you Amanda and musicfan, for this excellent list of links!

I absolutely love Bolero! There are many good songs on this album; "Bolero" is brilliant; but for some reason the one that stays with me is "Ay No."

And now, of course, Canut has another album out, Gitano.
